CloseBot allows business plans and agency plans to select Gemini as an AI provider. Agency plans must add Gemini to their AI providers before adding it as an option for their any of their personas. Business plans don't have to put their key in. This guide covers getting your Gemini API key and saving it to your CloseBot AI providers list. For general AI provider information check out this article HERE.
Just because CloseBot allows use of Gemini, it does not mean other users' data is exposed to Gemini. Only those who have added this as a provider are allowing it to see their messages.
Adding Gemini API Key
From within the AI providers screen, click Add new provider and select Gemini. You'll be required to enter in the unique name for this provider as well as your Gemini API key that can be obtained from the Google Developer Console HERE.
Access Google AI Studio
Log in to your existing Google Developer account or sign up to access API keys. This developer portal is different than the non-developer Gemini interface where you go to interact with Gemini as a normal user.
Copy An API Key
Once you have your console open, navigate to API Keys in the side bar. Gemini doesn't require you to set up billing information before using your API key. Click to create an API key, then choose an existing project or create a new one.
Remember, Gemini will bill you for usage incurred, but CloseBot tracks the cost and allows you to re-bill this amount to your clients on our agency plan.
Billing Setup
Billing setup isn't mandatory in order to get a functional key, but we advise you to set up your billing as soon as you're able. Gemini will cut you off after light usage of your key without billing set up. On the same page as your API key, click Set up Billing on the bottom right of the screen. Connect to an existing billing account or set up a new one.
Make sure you remember to copy this key when you create it. It won't be shown to you again.
Rate Limits
Google rate limits new accounts until they've processed enough spend to do higher volume. To be eligible for the highest rate limit tier, you'll want to pre-purchase $1,000 in credits and wait 30 days. More details about seasoning your account for high volume can be found HERE.
Next Steps
From here you'll want to paste the Gemini key into the AI provider pop-up, give it a unique name and save it. Learn more about creating AI providers HERE.
Here are some things we've noticed about Gemini:
Less likely to start responses with "Great", "Hi", etc. like some other providers
Naturally concise, which is refreshing compared to verbose models
Shows a bit more personality and unpredictability in its responses
