CloseBot allows free, business, and agency plans to select OpenAI as an AI provider. Agency plans must add OpenAI to their AI providers before adding it as an option for their any of their personas. Business and free plans don't have to put their key in. This guide covers getting your OpenAI API key and saving it to your CloseBot AI providers list. For general AI provider information check out this article HERE.
Just because CloseBot allows use of OpenAI, it does not mean other users' data is exposed to OpenAI. Only those who have added this as a provider are allowing it to see their messages.
Adding OpenAI API Key
From within the AI providers screen, click Add new provider and select OpenAI. You'll be required to enter in a unique name for this provider as well as your OpenAI API key that can be obtained from the OpenAI platform HERE.
Access OpenAI Developer Console
Log in to your existing OpenAI Developer Platform account or sign up to access API keys. This developer portal is different than the non-developer OpenAI interface where you go to interact with ChatGPT as a normal user.
Make and Copy an API Key
Once you have your platform window open click the gear in the top right of your screen, and navigate to API Keys in the side bar. Then click Create new secret key. Choose any project to add the key to and name the key anything you'd like. Copy the resulting key to paste into CloseBot.
Make sure you remember to copy this key when you create it. It won't be shown to you again.
Remember, OpenAI will bill you for usage incurred, but CloseBot tracks the cost and allows you to re-bill this amount to your clients on our agency plan.
Billing Setup
On the same page as your API key, click Set up Billing on the bottom right of the screen. Connect to an existing billing account or set up a new one.
Rate Limits
OpenAI has rate limit tiers. If you're a newer account with little spend, they throttle your usage. You can increase your tier by pre-paying for a large sum of usage. View more information about usage tiers HERE.
Next Steps
From here, you'll want to paste the OpenAI key into the AI provider pop-up, give it a unique name and save it. Learn more about creating AI providers HERE.
Here are some things we've noticed about OpenAI:
Likes to start messages with a short word like "Hi!", "Great", "Thanks", etc.
Is naturally more concise than other AI Providers
Tends to sound more formal
