Learn how to make your agents respond with more human-like timing.

Overview

Variable Reply Times let you control how quickly a persona sends messages. Instead of responding instantly, your agent can wait a realistic amount of time, similar to how a real person texts. This creates more natural, less robotic-feeling conversations.

Nothing changes on its own. Your persona will continue responding normally until you manually adjust this setting.

Why Use It

Use Variable Reply Times if you want:

  • More human-like pacing in conversations

  • A smoother, more natural messaging rhythm

  • Agents that feel less “instant AI” and more like a real representative

  • More control over how your persona behaves in different contexts or industries

This setting is especially useful if your audience expects thoughtful replies rather than immediate responses.

Options

You can choose from five timing modes:

  • No Extra Delay — Agent responds as fast as possible

  • Realistic (20–45 sec) — Natural, human-like pauses

  • Slow (45–90 sec) — Longer, intentional delays

  • Random (5–120 sec) — Adds unpredictability to feel more organic

  • Custom — Set your reply times to a specific number of seconds, this option does not allow for variability

Where to Configure It

You can find this setting inside any persona:

  1. Go to Agents → Personas

  2. Open a persona

  3. Scroll to Advanced Settings

  4. Select your preferred Variable Reply Time option

5. Save the persona

Once saved, the setting applies immediately to all conversations using that persona.
