Overview

General settings for the chat widget are found on the Chat Settings page found when creating a new chat widget or by clicking to edit an existing widget. As you edit different sections, you can see the effect of the edits within the preview on the right.

Widget Name

This is the channel name for your widget and the title that displays to you internally on your chat widget list view. This is not viewable by leads that engage with your widget.

Header Title

This title displays in the header of the widget and is viewable by leads that engage with the widget.

Welcome Message

This is the message that will be displayed immediately upon opening the chat widget. It's also the message that will pop up when new leads on your site trigger the auto pop-up behavior as set in the behavior settings.

Message Placeholder

This replaces the default Type a message... placeholder text with your own text. You'll find this especially helpful if your site visitors are likely non-English speakers.

Primary Color and Theme

You can modify the primary color here as well as the theme (light, dark or auto-detect system settings of visitor). Remember, you do have full control over the view by modifying your website CSS, targeting our elements. See more about that here.

Widget Icon

You have several options for the closed-state chat widget icon. Close the preview to see the selected icon.

Toggle Options

You are able to toggle options for the following:

  • Powered by CloseBot β†’ "CloseBot" is replaced with your agency name if you have an agency plan

  • Online Status β†’ See a green bubble in both the opened and closed state of the widget to signify someone is online

  • Notification Sound β†’ When a new message is received, the visitor will hear an audible ding.

Summary

You've learned about some of the basic settings focused on customizing the look and visitor experience of your widget. Next up is the form settings section where you can set up the intake form for leads engaging with your widget.
